Our group name
My group and I decided to call our production Company "Reservoir films". We liked this one out of the many ideas we had. It stood out because it had a ring to it and sounded more natural. The name was inspired by a poster that was posted in the classroom of a dam, we came to an agreement that reservoirs are a source of storage and allow water to be distributed to people just like films are made and then distributed
Our Target Audience
By looking at the pearl and dean website our group were able to develop ideas and come to a conclusion based on what we thought that our target audience should be. To gain an insight on what our target audience should be. We compared our thriller story to films of a 12A to 18 ratings. We looked at two movies Woman in black,Shutter Island & Nightmare on Elm street. We chose these three because they were all of different age rating which would help us to make a decision on what age our film should be by comparing it to them. In the end we came up with the conclusion that the film should be set as a 15, however we are still not 100% sure.
Planning our main task
Here are the photos of our group planning our main task. In this discussion we were deciding on our storyboard, script & the locations that we are going to film our film.

Script
For the opening scene of our thriller film we used two costumes, one for each of the two characters. The costumes had equal input from our group. We settled on a casual put together look for the female being chased and an all black costume for the masked character.
We chose to go for a black wardrobe and a white mask because of movies which usually have a mysterious character. By concealing the masked characters face enigmas are built up by the audience as to who can this character be?
Costume Planning
This is the black trousers that the antagonist wore during the filming.
This is the shoe worn by the antagonist during the filming.

This mask was worn by the antagonist to protect and hide her face from the protagonist during the filming.

Filming schedule for main task
Date: 22nd of April 2012
Time: 6.30 pm
Location: Sidcup-by-pass and Main Road
This our filming schedule for our main task. We have decide to make the timing in which we are filming late due to all of us having important things to do and this our only free time. Also as it help sets the scene for our film and the nature of the theme we are trying to portray as a team. We decide on the location at which to film our film so that it’s easier for all of us to get and get home in a responsible time. With the filming schedule we were able to bring to live the ideas that we have created for the opening of our film. With the schedule we was all able to work together to get our ideas created into a good opening, with the schedule we were able to do what we need to do to ensure that what we wanted to do in our film is done to the best of our abilities.
Editing schedule for main task
Date: 23rd of April to the 9th on May
Location: Christ the King ST’Marys Sidcup
Time: The time in which we decide to edit varies on the different days that we are editing. The editing could happen when we have our media lessons in the different days.
Time for editing during media lessons
Monday: 8.50:1020am
Wednesday: 12.10pm – 13.40pm
Friday: 10.40am -12.10pm
Although in some of our media lessons we do not have access to the mark as other lesson are taking place in the our usual media lesson, therefore we as a group make alternative times in which we know that the room will be free and come together and work as a time to edit our film so we can make to the best of our abilities.
Other times outside the lesson for editing
Time outside class: 2.30pm to 5.00pm or 5.45pm
This time applies to all the days we took to edit our time. As we all have other things to do , at least one of us will be in the room editing whilst the other attention to the necessary things that they need to do and come along later together to see what else can be done and make any changes required of to make to the film in order to make the actual way we planned and hope it would be. We all made this time flexible for us all so if we had any family issues we work together and do our best to ensure that the other are in the position in which they can handle the work whilst the other go to where they need to go. Which show how well we all work together as a team as we was able to work around time for each and ensure that we are on top of other subjects as well as the task we have at hand for our media coursework.
This really helped all of us, because we was able to sure our different ideas and work together as a team to apply those ideas to our film. Working together as a team to ensure that everything is done in the way we will all be happy and satisfied with the end result.
Health and safety information for the main task
As the lactation where we have set our film to be film is near the motorway in Sidcup/chesthurts road we had to make some health and safety check to make sure that every think is in check.
1. The safety of the characters
Firstly we had to ensure that the members team that are filming are adjust in the position that will not course any danger what so ever. We ensure that the filming of the film doesn’t entitle us to make any concentration with the road or passing passengers in the main road so that nothing bad happens to them and us. Another healthy and safety that was required for us to ensure that thing was up to stand, was that one of the actress wasn’t like being in tight space and as she was the protagiont wearing the mark , we had to ensure that she does keep the mark on for too long so she doesn’t start to film sick or unconscious. Therefore scene where are mark are not required we ensured that she didn’t wear and scene that does require her wearing a mark , we ensure that the period of time in which she had it on wasn’t too long to avoid any complications.
2. The safety of the public
For the safety of the public we ensure that we wasn’t in the way of any passing people on the pavement, ensure we wasn’t in the way of any passing camera, so there was no accidents made. We ensure that we ensure that no member of the public appeared in any of our shots as it’s legal to film directly at people without their contents. Therefore we was careful where was shooting, this also alter the day at which we decide to film, so we can avoid any of this problems.
3. The safety of our property whilst filming
As we was filming in more public place, we need to ensure that our personal belongs are placed in places where we can see them whilst we were filming. We need to ensure this so that nothing that belongs to us goes missing, so we all decide to places all of our belong together in a place we can see it whilst we are filming out film.
Alterations made for the main task
One of the member of our group- Group 6,Theresa has decide to work on her own as she felt she can work better independently. This left the group with just three members me, Nikkie, Estie, we all decide we are going to work together to do our best in making our main task very good and presentable. We all allocated different role for each other in other to make things work for all of us as a group. We work very well as a team, as we have shared responsibility in the group.

What titles for each opening look like? Do they symbolise the thriller genre?
The opening title for panic opening looks very creative, modern and classy. This subvert the audience from the actually meaning of the title which does symbolise that the film is of any thriller themed. The opening doesn't show any form of thriller conventions as the titles where presented very natural creative way , which subvert the audience for the any negative enigmas , considering the title of the film.
Analyse the camera, sound, editing and mise-en-scène. How do these technical areas make you aware that this is the thriller genre?
The different types of camera shots of the city creates awareness of the location where the film is basedin. A lot of pieces of music or sounds that are used in Thriller films, start off with a loud distinct noise that the audience recognises and gets there attention straight away , it is often a loud bang or a slam of a door. It then quietly often goes into a piece of music that is quite fast and quite often the piece of music sounds like someone is running from someone or something that will put them in danger. It gives the audience the enigmas that something bad is going to happen or has already happened to the character in the film and that character is in need of help and rescue. The music sometimes slows down but then there is a sudden tense noise which shows that character is trying to hide or get away from something. The music sometimes the pace of the music picks t back up and we can just hear certain sounds such as breathing or foot steps, dripping water or rain.
However, some pieces of music are used in every scene of the film as a soothing on top of the fast pace beat/music. This type of music can have the opposite effect and the audience may feel as everything is very calm and relaxed and then if something that makes the audience jumps suddenly happen, this music may pick up its pace and beat which the audience weren't expecting it to hear any time soon. this mostly happen in horror thriller films or horror films.
This an example of an iconic sound effect

BBFC CERTIFICATE
‘U’
Universal – Suitable for all
It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
‘PG’
Parental Guidance
General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children
Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.
’12A’/’12′
Suitable for 12 years and over
Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.
The ‘12A’ category exists only for cinema films. No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, and films classified ‘12A’ are not recommended for a child below 12. An adult may take a younger child if, in their judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.
The ‘12’ category exists only for video works. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video work.
’15′
Suitable only for 15 years and over
No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.
’18′
Suitable only for adults
No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema.
No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video.
In line with the consistent findings of the BBFC’s public consultations and The Human Rights Act 1998, at ‘18’ the BBFC’s guideline concerns will not normally override the principle that adults should be free to choose their own entertainment. Exceptions are most likely in the following areas:
- where the material is in breach of the criminal law, or has been created through the commission of a criminal offence
- where material or treatment appears to the BBFC to risk harm to individuals or, through their behaviour, to society – for example, any detailed portrayal of violent or dangerous acts, or of illegal drug use, which may cause harm to public health or morals. This may include portrayals of sexual or sexualised violence which might, for example, eroticise or endorse sexual assault
- where there are more explicit images of sexual activity which cannot be justified by context. Such images may be appropriate in ‘R18’ works, and in ‘sex works’ (see below) would normally be confined to that category.
In the case of video works (including video games), which may be more accessible to younger viewers, intervention may be more frequent than for cinema films.
‘R18′
To be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only in licensed sex shops, and to adults of not less than 18 years
The ‘R18’ category is a special and legally restricted classification primarily for explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Films may only be shown to adults in specially licensed cinemas, and video works may be supplied to adults only in licensed sex shops. ‘R18’ video works may not be supplied by mail order. The following content is not acceptable:
- any material which is in breach of the criminal law, including material judged to be obscene under the current interpretation of the Obscene Publications Act 1959
- material (including dialogue) likely to encourage an interest in sexually abusive activity (for example, paedophilia, incest or rape) which may include adults role-playing as non-adults
- the portrayal of any sexual activity which involves lack of consent (whether real or simulated). Any form of physical restraint which prevents participants from indicating a withdrawal of consent
- the infliction of pain or acts which may cause lasting physical harm, whether real or (in a sexual context) simulated. Some allowance may be made for moderate, non-abusive, consensual activity
- penetration by any object associated with violence or likely to cause physical harm
- any sexual threats, humiliation or abuse which does not form part of a clearly consenting role-playing game. Strong physical or verbal abuse, even if consensual, is unlikely to be acceptable.
This information was found on the BBFC website, explaining the meaning of each rating in detail and the law and regulations that is attached with it.

Understanding camera shots/angles/movement in general
There are basic camera shots/angles and movements that is used in most movies:
Camera Shots
Extreme Wide Shots : Acts to establish the area.
Wide Shots : show the entire person or area. They’re great for establishing the scene and allow for good action of the characters. Sometimes this is known as the long shot.
Medium Shots : Frame the subject from the waste up. This is the most common shot and allows for hand gestures and motion.
Medium Close Ups : Shots show the subject in more detail and are often framed from just below the shoulders to the top of the head.
Close Ups: Show a particular part of your subject. For people this usually means the shot frames just the head!
Extreme Close Ups : are much tighter close-up shots in which you get detail greater than the human eye might be able to normally perceive. An example of this shot might be of the mouth and eyes together
CAMERA ANGLES

This shows a scene from directly overhead, a very unnatural and strange angle. Familiar objects viewed from this angle might seem totally unrecognisable at first. The bird's eye view shot allows audience's to feel powers as they are looking down on the action that is taking place. This can make characters look very Small in the eyes of the audience, therefore the audience can find a way to relate with the characters. Hitchcock alongside other directors like like Brian de Palma fonded this style of shot.
2. High Angle
High Angle is not as extreme as a bird's eye view. The camera is elevated above the action using a crane to give a general overview of the action taking place. High angles make the object photographed seem smaller, and less significant or scary. This makes the objects or characters often look like they are getting swallowed up by the setting in which they are in and this allows them to become part of the wide picture within the setting.
3. Eye Level
The eye level is fairly neutral/normal shot; where the camera is positioned as though it is a human actually observing a scene sort of like a point of view shot, so that the actors' heads are in level with the main focus. The camera are always placed approximately five to six feet from the ground.
4. Low Angle
Low angles helps give a sense of confusion to the audience and also a scene of powerlessness within the action happen within the scene. The background of a low angle shot tends show just skies or ceilings, the lack of detail about the setting adding to the disorientation and confusion of the audience. The added height of the object or character in the scene, allows it to create a fearful image or thought thought the audience and may cause insecurity and uncomfortableness.
5. Oblique/Canted Angle
With a oblique/canted angle, sometimes the camera is tilted to show unbalance, transition and instability of the character in the scene. This technique is used to suggest point-of view shot, where the audienece xcan see thing in the perceptive of one particually character.
Camera Movement
1. Pans
A movement which scans a scene horizontally. The camera is placed on a tripod, which helps it to operates as a stationary axis point in which the camera can be turned. This movement is often used to follow a moving object which is kept in the middle of the frame, therefore the audience can clearly understand what they are looking at.
2. Tilts
A movement which scans a scene vertically, otherwise similar to a pan.
3. Dolly Shots
Dolly shots are sometimes called TRUCKING or TRACKING shots. The camera is placed on a moving vehicle and moves alongside the action and the character in the scene, cacuaslly following the objecvt/character. A dolly shot may be a good way of portraying and showing off a great movement, for example a jounery of the character from one place to another. It can also be used for a long-shot close up on an character, scene of object, this allows the auidence to focus on a particular object or character.
4. Hand-held shots
An hand-held shot allows the camera to be stabilized so it moves independently with the character or object in question. An hand held cameras denote and shows a certain kind of gritty realism in the scene and of the character. It allows audiences to feel that they realte or connect with whats is happenning in the scene.
5. Crane Shots
A crane-shot is bascially a dolly- shot being filmed in the air. The camera operator and the camera are counter-balanced by a heavy weight, and trust their safety to a skilled crane operator.
6. Zoom Lenses
A zoom lens contains a mechanism that changes the magnification of an image in the scene. On a still camera, this means that the photographer who is taking the pictures can get a 'close up' shot whilsrt being placed in a future distance from the character or object in question. A video zoom lens can change the position in which the audience is in, either very quickly or slowly, without moving the camera an inch, which allows the audience to feel that they are there within the action.
7. The Aerial Shot
An aerial shot is a exciting variation of a crane shot, and is usually taken from a helicopter. This is often used at the beginning of a film, in order for the audience to establish setting of the film that they are about to watch.
